From the Publisher:

Beautiful Cassandra is a Were, a prophet both vulnerable and defiant, blessed with visions that portend the fate of the world. A rare and delicate creature, Cassie must be protected at all costs. Enter Caine, a powerful cur turned pure-blooded Were whose recent tangles with a demon lord have left him in serious need of redemption. Caine is duty-bound to keep Cassie out of danger - and that means resisting his potent urge to seduce her. As Cassie's mysterious visions lead them in and out of danger, Caine believes he has found his true mate, the woman with whom he is bound for all eternity. Cassie is both charmed and frightened by Caine's magnetism, and unsure if he - or her feelings for him - can be trusted. But Cassie can't afford to doubt Caine now. A deadly enemy bent on destruction is closer than they realize - and only they can keep chaos from ruling the world.

"[Caine had] stumbled across Cassie in the caves of the demon lord and he'd realized with crystal clarity that she was his reason for existing."

Who can resist a hero like that? Not me. Caine made the ultimate sacrifice, dying to rescue Cassie from hell. He was reborn as a pureblood Were and became her guardian.  "My destiny has always been to protect you. Always." You couldn't find a more devoted protector than Caine. He's also a strong, sexy alpha.

Cassie is the prophet, and as such she is the most sought after person in the world. By both the good guys and the bad guys. She needs Caine's protection, but finds that she needs Caine on a different level, also. Having been raised in hell she is innocent of the ways of the world. And yet she has an inner strength and knows her mind and her heart. She holds her own against the jaded and tortured Caine, and is just what he needs.

As the book begins, Caine and Cassie have been on the run together for a few weeks. Their attraction to each other has already begun. But even as their attraction grows, forces are at work to tear them apart. Eventually they face the ultimate test, and may not make it through.

Fear the Darkness is a turning point in the overall story arc of the Guardians of Eternity series. All the main characters from the entire series return to play their parts in fighting the Dark Lord. It's good to see old friends again, and Styx, Salvatore, and Viper often provide comic relief.

Even though there is an epic battle in Fear the Darkness, the series isn't over. Santiago and Nefri's story is next, in Darkness Avenged. It will be out June 1, 2013. Although it hasn't been announced as of this writing, I'm looking forward to reading Roke's story, too!

Happy reading!
