Logan Screwed Up...Big Time
When things go bump in the night, Logan bumps back. Vampires, demons, succubi—you name it, he's fought it. His job as Paladin angel warrior is to protect humans. Not fall for one.

She Never Believed in Divine Intervention...Until Now
Detective Jessica Waters protects humans too-with her Glock and a good set of handcuffs. She doesn't believe in fate. But if anyone looks like a gift from the gods, it's Logan. And he clearly knows more about her case than he's letting on...

Logan Calhoun is a Paladin, one of God's Warriors. He's a descendant of an angel who came to earth to help humanity. Logan protects humans from the evil that they aren't aware of and aren't capable of fighting. He's the last full-blooded Paladin, and as such he's expected to follow in his father's footsteps as head of the council of Paladins. He has heavy responsibilities.

And those responsibilities don't allow for getting involved with a human.

Jessica Waters' faith is in the tangible. She believes in just the facts, ma'am. She's a detective who is haunted by a tragedy in her past. That tragedy drives her to catch killers. But when she takes on a case of murder in which Logan's friend is implicated, she is unknowingly put into danger from Logan's world. That danger escalates when Logan is inexplicably drawn to Jessica. In spite of her better judgment, she is also drawn to him.
"Theirs was definitely not a match made in heaven."
Everything is wrong with their relationship. He is a man of faith, she is a woman of suspicion and skepticism. He is risking his status as a Paladin for her and she is risking her job as a detective for him. And yet they can't stay away from each other.

Life as they know it, their relationship, and their very lives are in danger from forces gathering against them from all sides.

Logan is a protective hero who is deadly in a fight, and yet tender when the moment calls for it. He's a character you'll fall in love with. And you'll definitely want to get carried away with him in a painting loft. (But you'll have to read that for yourself!) Jessica is a loner. A tough, kick-ass heroine who needs to let go of what is festering inside of her. Her journey is the greater one in the story.

The suspense and the danger will keep you turning the pages. And if you're the kind of person who cries while reading books, keep a tissue handy.

All in all, Deliver Me From Temptation is a story of faith. But the lesson that's learned may surprise you.

Although Deliver Me From Temptation can be read as a stand-alone book, you'll enjoy it more if you read Deliver Me From Darkness first. Enjoy both books!

Happy Reading!

Seven months after the events in Dragon Bound, Pia reflects on her relationship with …
Dragos, who was primitive, powerful, domineering, calculating, manipulative  infernally clever and tactless, and who she adored with all of her heart. Dragos, who created as many problems as he solved, and who loved her too, fiercely, so much so he had mated with her. Their lives had become inextricably entwined, and they had to work together for things now.
Which meant they needed to figure out how to be partners …
But how could Pia, a young woman in her twenties, become a partner with one of the oldest creatures on earth? A Powerful Beast who had never been a partner with anyone before? Neither Pia or Dragos knows the answer.

Their partnership is tested when Pia travels to South Carolina to meet with the Elves. When Dragos pursued Pia in Dragon Bound, he broke many treaties with the Elves. Relations with the Elves need to be repaired because there is border strife and a crippling trade embargo. Pia's negotiations with the Elves are delicate and crucial.

Dragos can't travel with Pia, and he is beside himself with worry, as they've never been apart. To add to his concern, Pia is pregnant with their Powerful son, "Peanut."

Dragos must stay in New York because he is hosting the Sentinel Games. He lost two of his Sentinels—Tiago and Rune— when they found their mates. They are to be replaced in elimination matches between hundreds of contests over many days. Even Dragos's current Sentinels must compete.

Negotiations with the Elves don't proceed according to plan. Pia finds herself in the middle of a deadly situation that threatens not only the demesne of the Elves, but the world …

Lord's Fall is a beautiful love story that will warm the hearts of fans of Dragos and Pia. There is tenderness, comedy, page-turning action, and hot smex. Did I say hot smex? Let's just say that you'll never look at a man in a designer suit and sunglasses the same way again.

Thea Harrison not only advanced the overall story arc of the series, she gave a gift to readers. And the greatest gift comes at the end of the book. Don't miss it.

I'm going to allow the book to speak for itself. Here are some of my favorite quotes:
Dragos: Her pearly luminescence filtered through his dark lashes and lit all the dark corners inside of him.
Pia: You can take the girl out of a Target store, she thought, but you can't take the Target store out of the girl.
Dragos to Pia: "I'm vulnerable in ways I've never been before … But in ways, I'm stronger and better with you than without."
Pia to Dragos: "Because you're the meanest, strongest, toughest, son of a bitch I know...and I mean all of that as a total heartfelt compliment."
Dragos: She had come into his life to steal from him, and in the process she had given him everything she had.
If you're a fan of the Elder Races series, Lord's Fall should be next on your TBR pile. If you haven't read the series, start with Dragon Bound and enjoy!

Review of FOURTH GRAVE BENEATH MY FEET by Darynda Jones

Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet
(Charley Davidson, #4)
by Darynda Jones

Rating: 5♥s Outstanding/Don't Miss
Sensuality: Hot
Cover: 4♥s
Genre: Paranormal/Urban Fantasy

Publication Date: October 30, 2013
Length: Novel
Audience: Adult

Amazon US: Hardcover / Kindle Edition
B&N: Hardcover & NOOK Book

From the publisher:

In Darynda Jones's Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet, sometimes being the grim reaper really is that. Grim. And since Charley’s last case went so awry, she has taken a couple months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above. Or at least get dressed. She quickly realizes something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane. The more they refute the woman’s story, the more Charley believes it.

In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, has been cleared of all charges. He is out of prison and out of Charley’s life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved. Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans.

Welcome back. I see the assassins have failed.
When Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet opens, two months have passed since Charley was tortured by Earl Walker. Charley has hidden herself away with her dead aunt Lillian in Cookie's apartment, and is bingeing on the Buy From Home Channel. Financial troubles force her to get dressed and leave the apartment, and she stumbles upon Harper Lowell. Harper believes that someone is trying to kill her, though everyone around her thinks she's just trying to get attention. But Charlie believes Harper, and takes the case.

Also, Uncle Bob contacts Charley about consulting on a series of arson fires. And there are a series of bank robberies by a group known as the Gentlemen Thieves. Somehow, they look familiar to Charley.

But above all, Charley has a bold idea for getting out of financial trouble. She's going to present Reyes with a bill for her services, even though they are angry with each other. She finds out where he is working, and visits him at his surprising new job. There she discovers that she is in mortal danger. Charley and Reyes are thrown together, with explosive results. Can they work with each other to keep Charley safe? And what will happen between the two of them?

I just needed a minute to gather my wits. They were always running amok, wreaking havoc.
--Charley Davidson

Though she would deny it, Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet is the story of Charley's PTSD in the aftermath of her torture. Only Darynda Jones could take such a serious subject and lighten it without actually making fun of it. From Charley's droll friendship with Cookie, to bunny slippers as legitimate footwear, to boxes from the Buy From Home Channel piled high in her apartment, to an intervention that only Charley's friends and family could come up with and much more, you'll snicker out loud. (I know I did. On a cross-country flight, no less. I hope my seatmate didn't notice.) And yet your heart will also bruise and break along with Charley's. You won't want to miss a word as the book keeps you reading "just one more chapter ..."

I don't want to give away any spoilers regarding the relationship between Reyes and Charley. Let's just say that it takes a turn. Or two. Or a few.

There are many surprising revelations about a number of characters, including Charley and Reyes. Charley learns some things about her origins that are life-altering. She also hears some talk about Reyes that she doesn't know whether to believe. I think that these revelations will form the foundation for the future story arc.

Not all questions are answered at the end of Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet, no doubt leading into Fifth Grave Past the Light. That book is due to be released July 9, 2013. A sixth book is also planned.

In the meantime, enjoy reading Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet!

The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires

(Half Moon Hollow, #2)
by Molly Harper

Rating: 4.0♥s Very Good/Recommended
Sensuality: Hot
Genre: Paranormal Romance/Vampire

Publication Date: July 31, 2012
Length: Novel
Audience: Adult

From the publisher:

Iris Scanlon, Half-Moon Hollow's only daytime vampire concierge, knows more about the undead than she'd like. Running all their daylight errands--from letting in the plumber to picking up some chilled O neg--gives her a look at the not-so-glamorous side of vampire life. Her rules are strict; relationships with vamps are strictly business, not friendship--and certainly not anything else. But then she finds her newest client, Cal, poisoned on his kitchen floor, and only Iris can help.

Cal - who would be devastatingly sexy, if Iris allowed herself to think that way - offers Iris a hefty fee for hiding him at her place until he figures out who wants him permanently dead. Even though he's imperious, unfriendly and doesn't seem to understand the difference between "employee" and "servant," Iris agrees, and finds herself breaking more and more of her own rules to help him - particularly those concerning nudity. Turns out what her quiet little life needed was some intrigue & romance--in the form of her very own stray vampire.

"I have enough of my own sarcasm, Cal. I don't need yours."

Iris Scanlon is sarcastic and laugh out loud funny. She's also a caring, responsible substitute mother for her sister Gigi, with whom she has a hilarious relationship. She's smart, resourceful, and brave when push comes to shove. You'll love her first-person narration.

"I'd agreed to cohabitate with [Cal] who was cranky condescending, and prone to bouts of staggering insensitivity. If I'd wanted that, I'd get a cat."

But Cal is oh, so sexy. Cletus "Cal" Calix starts out as an arrogant vampire, believing that humans are simply a means to an end in backwater Half Moon Hollow. He can't wait to solve the mystery of the poisonings and leave. But then he gets to know Iris and Gigi better ...

Iris and Cal have a turbulent relationship. From snarky arguments to tender times to out-of-control sex to heart-rending moments, you happily hang on for the roller coaster ride. Molly Harper has the ability to make you laugh and cry right along with the characters.

The storyline follows Cal's poisoning and recovery, and the building relationship between Iris and Cal. Without meaning to, Cal ends up becoming close to Gigi in a fatherly or big-brother way. Scenes involving Gigi's prospective date and a Taser are hilarious.

Iris and Cal eventually work together on the mystery of the poisonings, and Iris is put into lethal danger. But the worst danger is to her heart, because Cal is planning on leaving as soon as the mystery is solved.

Since the Half Moon Hollow series is a spin-off of the Jane Jameson series, favorite characters from that series appear in The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires, to delight fans.

To sum it all up, you'll love the funny, oddball characters of Iris, Cal and Gigi, and their interwoven, quirky relationships. The mystery of the poisonings and continuing danger will keep you reading. You'll be rooting for Iris and Cal, but their future is in doubt. Will they reach their HEA?

Fun trivia:

Karl Urban
Molly Harper said that she was inspired to write this book by daydreams about a vampirized Karl Urban.

Molly Quinn
Molly Quinn was her inspiration for Gigi Scanlon.

Nathan Kress inspired Gigi's boyfriend Ben Overby.
