"[He was] caught between the competing needs of a fidelity that would destroy him, and a silken betrayal that might tear him apart."
Riaz Delgado had found his one and only mate.

But her heart belonged to another.

Riaz returns to SnowDancer a broken man. There he butts heads with frosty Adria Morgan. Adria has returned to SnowDancer to heal from a bad love affair. Neither Riaz nor Adria is looking to enter into a relationship. However, their prickly interactions hide a growing attraction. As they give in to their desire, Riaz sees their developing relationship as a betrayal of his mate. "[His] need was tangled with the caustic taste of infidelity …"  Adria fears that she will always be second best. Can their relationship survive the ultimate trial and come through stronger? Or will they be torn apart by the cruelty of fate?

Not just a romance, Tangle of Need is a sweeping epic of the Psy-Changeling world. It continues story lines involving the Psy on the brink of civil war, danger to Sienna Lauren Snow, machinations of the mysterious Kaleb Krychek, developments with the Human Alliance, contact with the BlackSea clan, and more.

*****

Tangle of Need is a richly layered baklava. Intricate plots are laid down one upon another and drenched with the honey of a poignant romance.

And poignant it is. Although the story of the romance between Riaz and Adria is short, it packs an emotional wallop. It's tear-jerking at times, and a resolution seems impossible. That impossibility will keep you reading long into the night as you hold out hope for the couple.

Speaking of romance, we also follow Hawke and Sienna throughout the book. Their scenes are part of an overall story arc, but they are also a gift to Hawke's and Sienna's fans.

Which leads us to Judd Lauren's fans. In a hilarious scene where art imitates life, Twilight fans are gently tweaked. I want the T-shirt.

Singh juggles many balls in Tangle of Need. In addition to the characters and plots already mentioned, Riley and Mercy are featured, as is patient Alice. The book ends on an intriguing sentence that will keep us guessing until the next book comes out. As of this writing, Singh says she isn't ready to announce the characters featured in the next book. Perhaps that would give away the ending of Tangle of Need. But I'm just guessing…

For those of you who need to catch up, the entire Psy-Changeling series is listed below in reading order.

Her Time Is Up

One hundred years ago, vampire and Prince of the Realm Conn Kayrs tumbled in the moonlight with witch Moira Dunne and ended up inadvertently mating with her. Since she was a young witch and the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter, Conn gave Moira a century to come into her unique powers. Now he's done waiting. Her one hundred years are up and he's ready to claim his mate. But independent, headstrong Moira doesn't want to be claimed.

The Realm is on the brink of war with demons and the evil Kurjan vampires. The Council of Nine witches is wavering as an ally. Someone is literally snatching Council witches out of thin air, and an attempt is made to snatch Moira. To make matters worse, Moira is in danger of becoming a political pawn between the Realm and the Council.

Can Conn convince Moira that he wants her for who she is, and not for what she is? Can he keep her safe, when their enemy is unknown? Can they overcome one hundred years of separation and find happiness together?
*****
As the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter, Moira is a powerful witch. She is also an impressive fighter (I won't spoil the explanation), and the combination makes her a kick-butt heroine. Conn calls her both dailtín (Brat) and céadsearc (sweetheart), which pretty much sums up the dual nature of her temperament. She's both stubborn and sensitive. On the one hand, she's a fighter. On the other hand, she's afraid. She's afraid that since Conn didn't want to claim her one hundred years ago, he only wants her now because of Realm politics.

Conn is the deadliest soldier in the Realm. He's a sexy, commanding, alpha male. And yet he also has a vulnerable side. As Moira describes him, he's "Kindness and understanding in such a deadly package." He's self-sacrificing when it comes to keeping his mate safe. Literally. You'll see.

The conflict between Conn and Moira and the danger to them both keep you turning the pages. The mystery of who is snatching witches keeps you wondering until almost the end.

 For fans of the Dark Protectors series, we see Dage, Talen, Jase and Kane in action. Gotta love those vampire brothers! Cara plays a major role. There's a parallel story involving the Kurjan teen Kalin. Janie and Zane's story is woven throughout. I can't wait to find out who and what Zane really is. What do you think Zane is? He's a vampire, but I think he's something more …

I'm looking forward to Katie and Jordan's story, Consumed, which is coming out in July, 2012. Kane's story, Provoked, comes out in November, 2012. We're got some good reading ahead of us.

Happy reading!

Deadly Enemies

Do you like erotic paranormal romance? If so, look no further than the Alpha and Omega series and book two, Enemy Mine. Besides the scorching hanky-panky, it's got plenty of excitement and danger.

Emory is an alpha wolf shifter who is on edge, anxious to claim his mate. In book one, Omega Mine, Emory met Mary, whom he believed to be his mate. But Mary was raised by the enemy. She was raised by the Shepherds, hunters of shifters. Although Mary isn't a hunter, the last time Emory saw Mary she was afraid of him because she discovered he was a shifter. As Enemy Mine opens, Emory has gone to the Shepherd compound to free Mary from her abusive family. He finds that Mary has run away. And her family is on her trail, to murder her.

Can Emory find Mary, keep her safe from her family, and convince her to bloodbond with him? Can a shifter and a Shepherd have a future together?
*****
 Emory is everything you want in a hero. As Mary describes him:
"He was so strong and dangerous. … Yet when it came to her he was incredibly gentle, so careful. From the first time they'd met, she'd instinctually known he would keep her safe."
Oh, and he's great in bed. That's where the scorching hanky-panky comes in.

 Mary is a kind, compassionate young woman who finds the strength to stand up to her family. She fights her fears to get what she wants. And she wants Emory.

The plot is full of deadly peril. The book can be downright grim at times, and the danger will keep you turning the pages.

Readers of Omega Mine will be happy to see that Diskant and Ava play a role in Enemy Mine. Trey, Emory's brother, also plays a major role. His future story is set up, along with Nathan's and Cade's.

There was a surprising development at the end of this book. And the story didn't exactly end on a cliffhanger, but it looks like we're not quite finished with Emory and Mary.

If you like erotic paranormal romance, I recommend the Alpha and Omega series. Although Enemy Mine can be read as a standalone book, you'll enjoy it more if you read Omega Mine first.

Happy Reading!

A Dangerous Attraction
Book Review by Lisa Annesley

The first page of Caridad Piñeiro's The Claimed will claim you and won't let you go…

Victoria Johnson lives among humans, but she has a secret. She's next in line to become the leader of her clan of Light Hunters. Light Hunters take energy from nature and turn it into extraordinary powers. Victoria's biological clock is ticking, and it is time for her to choose the strongest mate from among the Light Hunters. To her parents' dismay, she also wants love.

She meets Christopher Sombrosa, who is also a powerful Hunter in his time of mating. Their energies align and they are irresistibly drawn to each other.

But Christopher is a Shadow Hunter, a mortal enemy of the Light Hunters.

Christopher is the son of the leader of his clan of Shadow Hunters. His father and followers take energy from humans, and as a consequence suffer from the smallpox they were infected with by the Conquistadors. Christopher has broken with his father and takes his energy from nature. He and his small group of followers have virtually rid themselves of the pox.

Victoria and Christopher propose peace between the Light Hunters and Christopher's Shadow Hunters clan. But can they overcome centuries of war and hatred, plus betrayal within their clans, to build a future  for their clans and for themselves as a couple?
*****
I enjoyed The Claimed. I liked spending time with Victoria and Christoper, and the plot had tension and danger that kept me reading.

Victoria is a powerful Light Hunter, and as such she's a strong character. She doesn't hold back and let Christopher do the heavy work. Yet she's also a caring leader of her people. Sometimes she's a little too caring, and that's her flaw (that's a good thing in a novel).

Christopher is sexy and dangerous as a powerful Shadow Hunter. Piñeiro says he's a cross between Eddie Cibrian and D.J. Cotrona. Keep that in mind as you're reading and you'll be panting as you're turning the pages.

For fans of the series, Adam Bruno from The Lost (Sin Hunters, #1) plays a role in The Claimed. It was good to see him and Bobbie again. I also enjoyed getting to know Ryan and Sammie, and look forward to reading more about them in the future. The book didn't end on a cliffhanger, but loose ends were left hanging. The series continues…

Happy Reading!

A Dangerous Ride
A Book Review by Lisa Annesley

Lethal Rider is a gallop through the dark with a sexy, dangerous Horseman. Hang on tight--emotional peaks and valleys are ahead.

Thanatos is the fourth Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and the one who will become Death if his seal is broken. For almost five thousand years he believed his seal was his virginity. In Immortal Rider (Lords of Deliverance #2), Thanatos was seduced by Regan Matthews, a demon-slaying Aegis Guardian. Regan was convinced that if she had a child with Thanatos the child would save the world from the Apocalypse. Thanatos, believing he was betrayed by Regan, went ballistic afterwards. He destroyed Greenland, and had to be subdued by his brother and sister with hellhound saliva. Although these events are recounted in Lethal Rider, you'll want to read Immortal Rider for the full impact if you haven't already.

As Lethal Rider opens, the world has gone to heck in Pestilence's hand basket. Pestilence has done his worst, and it's bad. Really bad. Demons are running rampant.

Thanatos has been kept paralyzed by Ares and Limos for eight and a half months to keep him calm, though he doesn't understand why it's necessary. He remembers little of what happened and is unaware that Regan is pregnant with his child. What he does know is that he needs to make her pay for her betrayal. One day, when the paralysis wears off, he escapes.

Regan is full to bursting with their baby yet eaten up by guilt over what she did to Thanatos. She is kept safe at Aegis headquarters until Thanatos tracks her down there. He kidnaps her and takes her back to his keep. His initial plan is for her to pleasure him for the eight and half months he lost, but then he sees that she's pregnant. He also finds out that Regan isn't the person he thought she was. But they have many enemies, including Pestilence, who want to kill the baby. Can they defeat their enemies and save the baby…and themselves?
~~~~~
"Arik snorted. 'Thanatos? Understand? Have you even met him?'"
As the bringer of Death, Thanatos is the ultimate tortured hero. He's a lonely man who has to live with the awful things he's seen and done. He's a sexy, alpha hero. Regan is a brave, tough Guardian. But she's also consumed with guilt over what she did to Thanatos, cries at car commercials, and is obsessive-compulsive when stressed. She's a heroine you can like and root for.
Some of Ione's dry humor relieves the darkness of the story. And the story gets very dark. I'm shameless when it come to crying over books, and I cried a couple of times.
For fans of the Demonica series, we see a number of Demonica characters in Lethal Rider. Kynan plays a large role, but we also see Eidolon, Shade, Wraith, and Idess, among others.
Lethal Rider is a dark story, full of danger for Regan, the baby, and Thanatos. Heck, the fate of the whole world hangs in the balance. It's a riveting book that will keep you reading just one more chapter…one more chapter…one more chapter…
I don't think it's a spoiler to say that both Reseph's story, Rogue Rider, and Reaver's story (Untitled), are set up at the end of Lethal Rider. Those books have already been announced.
Although Lethal Rider can be read as a standalone book, I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series for the greatest enjoyment. In fact, I recommend that you read the Demonica series before Lords of Deliverance. You'll be glad you did.
Let me know what you think of Demonica and Lords of Deliverance!
Happy Reading!
Alive and Kickin'
Book Review by Lisa Annesley
Are you a fan of Phineas McKinney, a.k.a. Dr. Phang, a.k.a. the Love Doctor? He gets a new moniker in Wanted: Undead or Alive. He makes a commercial for Blardonnay, the chardonnay-blood fusion drink, and becomes The Blardonnay Guy (like The Old Spice Guy). He even says "Hello Ladies." Fans of Phineas, rejoice!
And now to our story. If you're not a fan of the Love doctor, you'll be happy to know that Phineas grows up in Wanted and drops the Love Doctor routine. He goes undercover to catch Corky Courrant, the self-proclaimed Queen of the Malcontents. When the plan goes awry and Corky escapes, teams from MacKay Security and Investigations are spread across the world looking for her. Phineas receives a clue that she's in Wyoming, and he needs a day guard to go with him to check it out. The person available is Brynley Jones (introduced in Vampire Mine).
Phineas is secretly in love with Brynley. There's a slight problem with that, however. Brynley is a werewolf who hates vampires. She does have a thing for The Blardonnay Guy, though. Brynley agrees to go to Wyoming, but only if she can stay hidden from her father. She'd run away from home when he tried to marry her off to an alpha she didn't want to marry.
Phineas and Brynley go to Wyoming together and find much more trouble than they were expecting …
~~~~~
I have to admit that I dragged my feet before getting around to reading this book, because I wasn't a fan of the Love Doctor. I didn't see how Sparks could make a hero out of a running joke. I should have known better. Within the first few pages I knew that Phineas was hero material and that I was in good hands.

Likewise, I wasn't fond of Brynley in Vampire Mine. But in Wanted, Brynley is a likable, sympathetic character. As hero and heroine, Phineas and Brynley were funny together and well-matched.

As are all Love as Stake books, Wanted was a fun, light read. Sparks is very clever with a turn of phrase that can make you smile or even laugh out loud.
 "…Those Scottish barbarians will never--" [Corky] gasped when the door crashed open and a horde of kilted barbarians rushed in at vampire speed.
On second look only Angus, Robby, Ian, and Dougal were wearing kilts. The others wore pants, but would probably enjoy being called barbarians.
I won't spoil the ending of Wanted, but there's a great twist that you won't want to miss. I'm sure it will figure in future books.

In case you need to catch up, the rest of the Love at Stake books are listed below. The next book is Howard's story, Wild About You (Love at Stake #13). It will be released September 25, 2012.

Happy Reading!
