Will Omega save the vampires and humans of Penton, or be a death trap?

In Absolution, the peaceful vampire-human community of Penton was attacked by Matthias Ludlum, its corrupt Vampire Tribunal enemy. The town had retreated to its underground bunker, Omega. Ironically, Omega was designed by Matthias's son, Will Ludlum. Will is faithful to the leader of Penton's "scathe," and is one of his lieutenants. Will's patrol partner is Randa Thomas, a former US Army officer. Wise-cracking Will and by-the-book Randa often butt heads.

Matthias wants his son back and the Penton scathe destroyed. He'll stop at nothing to get what he wants. Can Will and Randa overcome their differences to save the scathe from Matthias? Or will their secret desire for each other make them—and the scathe—more vulnerable?

…his eyes turn this beautiful shade of amber.
Will Ludlum is a sexy, charismatic character with a tortured past who hides behind wise-cracks and his reputation as a prolific lover. But underneath that facade there is a genius who is honorable and self-sacrificing. He has many dark secrets from his past, which drove him to become the self-made vampire he is today.
She grew up a soldier, having to prove herself. But she hadn't thought about having to do it forever…
Randa Thomas is also driven by her past. She's the only daughter of a strict, dedicated Army officer father. As a result, she grew up competing with her brothers in order to earn his affection. She's kick-butt, but it has cost her emotionally. Part of her story arc is to confront her past, as Will's is to confront his. Both characters are sympathetic and likable.

Suspense speeds the plot along. You'll find yourself virtually holding your breath, waiting for the other shoe to drop. Clunk. It always does. The safety of the scathe and a satisfying resolution to its predicament seem impossible.

Susannah Sandlin set up at least one more of The Penton Legacy books in Omega. The next book will be Cage Reynolds's story, and I suspect that it will pack an emotional punch. It should be out in late summer/early fall 2013. In the meantime, she's writing a spin-off Omega Force novel that will be released as a serial. The serial will begin in late March, 2013.

Until then, enjoy reading Omega!
