Wolf With Benefits Is a Benefit to Fans

My recap:

Toni Jean-Louis Parker is the oldest sister of ten brilliant, gifted, quarreling, eccentric jackal-shifter siblings. She's the "average" one who keeps everyone organized and things running smoothly. But she decides she wants more from life than babysitting her siblings. She takes a job with the shifter hockey team—keeping things running smoothly.

The drawling Ricky Lee Reed may seem to live life in the slow lane, but he is a crack security expert. As soon as he meets Toni, he knows he wants her for a "hook-up." He attaches himself to her. But he gets more than he bargained for when Toni and her family are threatened—along with Ricky Lee's plans for simply a casual relationship with Toni.

My thoughts:

"'Not really a deep wolf, are ya, Ricky Lee?'
'Not if I can help it.'"

Ricky Lee is a lovable, laid-back character. He might not be deep, but he's genuine, faithful, and a Southern gentleman.

"'Perfect Southern manners. I never cuss, I rarely get sloppy drunk… And I treat my momma right at all times, and not just 'cause I'm afraid of her. Even though I kind of am."

Ricky Lee does everything in his easygoing style. Even falling in love with Toni. It's perfect.

Toni is also a likable character. She's a yipping jackal to Ricky Lee's unhurried wolf. She's an organized, take-charge woman who understands people and handles them well. She thinks she has no talent because that's what her siblings tell her. But her gift of working with people is her talent.

Toni's ten siblings and her parents are all uniquely drawn, which is a credit to the author. They all have their own roles to play.

Which leads me to the extensive cast of characters included from previous books. It's as if Shelly Laurenston made an effort to include just about everyone from every Magnus Pack and Pride book. A list of the books from the two series plus their characters is included at the end of this review, for reference when reading Wolf With Benefits. Fans will be happy to know that the popular Bo Novikov plays a large role in this book.

The plot of Wolf With Benefits winds from dealing with an ex-girlfriend to Toni and her family handling her new job to Toni negotiating with hostile Russian bears to a dangerous threat to the family. There are reminders of the over-arcing story line in which the elite shifter forces continue to hunt for the man who set up shifters to be hunted by humans. It sounds as if the next book will feature that story arc.

Wolf With Benefits is packed with Laurenston's signature deadpan humor. The substitute names that Toni comes up with for Blayne Thorpe (Beast Behaving Badly) are hilarious. But for the most part, Ricky Lee has the best punch lines.

Wolf With Benefits is another fun, funny visit to the world of Pride and Magnus Pack that's brimming with wacky characters. Enjoy!
