My recap:

P.I. Charley Davidson takes on a case involving a philandering husband who is possibly dangerous. Her hunky man, Reyes Farrow—the Son of Satan—is her main suspect in a major arson case. Charley's apartment is filling up with the ghosts of terrified blonde women covered in dirt and oil. And her father's bar is mysteriously filling up with women.

It's all in a day in the life of of the Grim Reaper.

My thoughts:

Charley is as likable as ever. She's hilarious, and I couldn't stop laughing at times.
I turned to have my morning meeting of the minds with Mr. Coffee. We talked every morning about lots of different things. He mostly gurgled and let off steam …
But what makes her a truly special character is that she's also emotionally vulnerable. Her big heart and her big mouth are two sides of the same coin. And although she's a kick-ass heroine, she gets her ass kicked in every book.

Reyes is as sexy as ever.
… Reyes Alexander Farrow … pulled me into his arms.
And what beautiful arms they were. Forearms corded with sinew and tendon. Biceps sculpted with the hills and valleys of well-defined muscle. Shoulders wide and powerful …
My gaze traveled up until I was looking into the face of an angel. Or a fallen angel. Or, well, a fallen angel's son.
If you're a fan of Reyes's—and who isn't?—you'll love this book. He appears often, and we see a side of him that we've never seen before.

The three main mysteries of the book keep it moving along at a fast clip. But just as important is the story of Charley and Reyes. That story will keep you reading long into the night.

Although one series story arc is resolved, another begins and is left open. The ending is a shocking cliffhanger. But don't let that deter you from reading the book. You won't be disappointed.

If you haven't read the Charley Davidson series, I highly recommend that you start from the beginning with First Grave on the Right. The reading order is listed below. The whole series is one of the best I've ever read.

My recap (I'll try not to spoil too much.):

Uilleam MacRieve is a Lykae who is haunted by a past that cost him his childhood and his parents. He feels responsible for that loss, even though it wasn't his fault. When he is captured and tortured by the anti-immortals Order under Commander Webb, he also loses his beast's Instinct. His inner guiding force. Once he escapes, he's a drunk and is contemplating suicide.

Chloe Todd is a professional soccer player trying to make the Olympic soccer team. But lately she hasn't felt like herself. Then her normally supportive father becomes mysterious. He hands her The Living Book of Lore and disappears. She's left adrift.

Until she's kidnapped. And put up for auction to immortals as Commander Webb's daughter. She's to be used—and abused—as bait for his capture.

MacRieve attends the auction, like thousands of others, to bid on Chloe. But his Instinct roars to the surface as he catches a whiff of his fated mate. He follows the scent … to Chloe.

He rescues Chloe from the auction, but gets more than he bargained for. As the past repeats itself, she turns out to be his worst nightmare. And he could be her death.

My thoughts:

As one-half of the Lykae twins "Hot and Hotter," MacRieve is HOT. Or is he Hotter? Whatever. He burns up the pages with his good looks, his brogue, his muscles, and his dirty talk. He's also badly, almost irreparably damaged. He's a vulnerable and sympathetic character. Your heart goes out to him for all that he suffered. He has a long, difficult journey in this book. But he's a true hero.

In a word, Chloe is spunky. She's a kick-ass athlete, a fighter, and a winner. She's a cute, funny, "smart-arse" with a fan-boy following. She turns into MacRieve's worst nightmare, but she doesn't act like his nightmare. You'll be rooting for this plucky heroine throughout the entire book.

I give MacRieve 5♥s because it's an emotional roller-coaster ride. The best books are. There are a number of tense, heartbreaking scenes, and problems that seem insurmountable. Thankfully, there is also plenty of signature Kresley Cole humor to lighten the way. Including Nucking-Futs Nïx.

MacRieve's twin, Munro (Hot or Hotter), plays the important role of the serious, wise man in this book. The Epilogue sets up his grueling story. I assume that story will be IAD #14, but I don't have confirmation of that at this writing. Next up is The Dacians #2.

Until then, enjoy MacRieve! I hope you love it as much as I did!
