A spoiler-free summary of the story:
And then Angelica Paxton is attacked by the worst of mankind.
Angie, an idealistic volunteer at a halfway house, is confused by Adrian's unnatural abilities. And Adrian is confused when Angie doesn't respond to his mind control.
Until he figures out why she's so special. And why she's in danger from his uncle, who also figures out why she's so special. Adrian has no choice but to stay close to Angie, even though he should fight the attraction he feels for her.
Especially since Angie is keeping a devastating secret from him.
Anne Hope has written yet another captivating installment in the Dark Souls series. Read on to find out why.
Anne's style is artistic. Her unique, expressive descriptions paint colorful works of art in your mind's eye. Reading her books is a pleasure, and Soul Thief is no exception.
Anne stuffed an amazing amount of character development into this novella. Adrian and Angie are fully fleshed-out people, not just characters.
Angie is a selfless young woman who wants to make a difference in the world. She's a strong, likable person. She not only makes a difference in the world, she makes a difference in Adrian.
I fell in love with the enigmatic Adrian in Soul Deep. He was sympathetic and honorable in that book. In Soul Thief we see that Adrian has always had a noble side to him. But we also see how he became who he is now, and why he works with Hybrids who need help. The reason is both beautiful and heartbreaking.
The plot of Soul Thief involves threats to Angie and intense action scenes. But essentially this is a story of two people who meet, fall in love, and change each other for the better in a race against destiny.
Now that I've read Soul Thief, I can't wait to read Soul Chase! I'm sure you'll feel the same way.

I received an advance review copy of Soul Thief in exchange for this honest review.
Soul Thief is billed as Dark Souls #0.5, a prequel. That's because it takes place in the late 1980's, whereas the rest of the books take place in the present day. However, if you're new to the series, I would start with Soul Bound. The complicated world of Dark Souls is fully explained in that book.
I suggest reading the books in the story-order, below.
