Two opposites, one goal
Krysta is a mortal whose "gift" of seeing auras has helped her fight vampires for the past six years. She's constantly getting injured and putting her life on the line, but she won't stop until every last vampire is dead. Then someone who seems to be a vampire comes to her aid in a fight, and she's suddenly not sure who is a friend and who is a foe. She just knows that Etienne is handsome and sexy and seems to be on her side. She wants to believe in him.

Etienne is an Immortal Guardian whose gift is telepathy. Yes, Immortal Guardians survive on blood and are sensitive to light, but they're not vampires. They have been protecting humans from vampires for millennia. When Etienne sees Krysta fighting vampires, he's protective and attracted to her.

Because she's gifted and therefore a potential Immortal Guardian, he brings her and her brother into the world of the Immortal Guardians.

Soon Immortal Guardians and vampires alike are under attack from an enemy that should not exist. The Immortal Guardians, with Krysta's help, must uncover this powerful, mysterious enemy.

Before one of them is captured and becomes a lab rat.

Love, mystery, mortal danger, and betrayal
Etienne is a protective hero who knows how to curl a girl's toes with his kisses. He's also a two hundred year-old gentleman who knows that he's "wooing" a young, modern woman. He tries to be up to date for Krysta's sake, which leads to some funny dialogue.

Krysta is a kick-butt heroine with a great sense of humor. In fact, there is a lot more humor overall in this book than in the previous ones. There's a scene in which Krysta's brother, Sean, visits—well, I don't want to spoil it for you. But you'll enjoy getting to know the other side of some of the more staid characters.

There's plenty of mortal danger, and I found myself worrying about characters that I cared about. I wasn't sure if all of them were going to survive. Again, no spoilers here.

The enigmatic character Zach features prominently in Darkness Rises. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of him in the future. Most likely in the next book.

The mystery of the enemy's identity will keep you turning the pages. The answer is a blow to the leaders of the Immortal Guardians, Seth and David, and leaves us with a cliffhanger. Fortunately, other story lines are wrapped up nicely to make up for it.

Is Darkness Rises on your TBR pile? I highly recommend it. To get the most enjoyment out of the book, read the series starting with book one, Darkness Dawns.

Happy reading!

THE PROTECTORS by Teresa Gabelman

The Protectors

by Teresa Gabelman

The Protectors series is a fresh take on the popular vampire-warriors genre

Damon by Teresa Gabelman
Book 1

Jared by Teresa Gabelman
Book 2

Duncan by Teresa Gabelman
Book 3

Book 4
Coming Soon

Ready to fall in love with some hunky vampire warriors?

Teresa Gabelman brings us The Protectors. The heroes are elite Vampire Council Warriors who have taken an oath to protect both humans and vampires. In their world humans, vampires, and half-breeds live openly alongside each other. But not always peacefully. And there are plenty of enemies to go around.

Tough, intense Damon meets his match in social-worker Nicole. Devoted sister Tessa gets the drop on Jared. And Duncan searches for his love, Pam, who is on the run for her life. They're different heroes, but they're all big, alpha, and sexy. Likewise, all the heroines are unique, but they're all strong. No TSTL heroines here!

The books grab you from the first page and don't let you go. You'll find yourself reading during every spare minute and late into the night until you reach that last page. That's the strength of Teresa's writing.

Wise-cracking Sid's book is up next. It should be a fun one.

Enjoy getting to know The Protectors!

A Damaged Vampire

Vampire Dougal Kincaid lost his hand in battle. Since then, he's been fitted with a mind-controlled prosthesis. He's spent years gaining control of his new hand, trying to get back to active security duty. He finally reaches his goal, only to lose control of his hand at the sight of—

Dr. Leah Chin, a human, is brought to the vampires' research facility because of her expertise in genetics. But when she learns that vampires are real, she freaks out. Until she catches sight of—

Dougal believes that he and Leah are destined to be together. But how does he convince her, when she is so skittish about vampires? And can he keep her safe, when her work in genetics is meant to undo the work of a demon who can only be taken out by angel warriors?

Two Lonely Souls

Dougal and Leah are two lonely souls. Literally. Dougal lost his first and only love three hundred years ago. He has been alone ever since. But when he first sees Leah, he believes that she is his lost love reborn.

Leah was raised by parents who pushed her into college by the age of 14, so she never had a chance to develop socially and emotionally. She's lonely. But she's a scientist, which means she doesn't believe that human-vampire love is logical. So, why does she feel unnaturally drawn to Dougal?

Funny and Fulfilling

You'll enjoy Dougal and Leah's love story. They're both well-drawn, likable characters. Did I say likable? You'll love Dougal, with his green eyes and Scottish brogue. Others try to give him advice on winning Leah, with awkward results. But when he's being himself, he's as romantic as they come.

The book drew me in and wouldn't let me go. Though tension and danger kept me reading, Kerrelyn's unique humor lightened the way. She has a wonderful way of playing with words.

Dougal and Leah go through some dark, difficult times that will hurt your heart. But their HEA is satisfying and fulfilling. And I loved the last two lines.

My only complaint? It was over far too soon.

I'm happy to report that Kerrelyn is working on Zoltan's story. In the meantime, enjoy The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo
