Leads To A Dangerous Seduction

To her dismay, the all powerful Oracles have sent Nefri on her own mission to find Gaius, and failure is not an option. Forever (World of Nightwalker, #2)
by Jacquelyn Frank

After being brought back from death, police officer Jackson Waverly receives the shock of his life: he has become host to a Bodywalker, a spirit that is reborn in flesh and blood, and part of a proud, ancient race that uses its extraordinary gifts to battle dark, evil forces. Jackson’s spirit is a powerful one—none other than the Egyptian pharaoh Menes, who longs to reunite with his eternal love, the Egyptian queen Hatshepsut.

While Menes is obsessed with finding the perfect vessel for his queen, Jackson cannot stop thinking about Dr. Marissa Anderson, the gorgeous precinct shrink who keeps pushing him to confront his grief over the loss of his K-9 partner. But what Marissa really arouses most in Jackson is intense desire, which is exactly what Menes is looking for. To fight a great enemy, pharaoh and queen must join; but to host Hatshepsut, Marissa will first have to die. Fate has given Jackson a profound choice: save Marissa from Menes’s plan or keep an entire species from the brink of extinction.

Leopard's Prey by Christine Feehan
Leopard's Prey (Leopard People, #6)
by Christine Feehan

From a tough stint in the armed forces to stalking the unknown as a bayou cop, leopard shifter Remy Boudreaux has been served well by his uncanny gifts. And right now, New Orleans could use a homicide detective like Remy.

A serial killer is loose, snatching victims from the French Quarter with pitiless rage and unnatural efficiency. But something else is drawing Remy into the twilight—a beautiful jazz singer bathed night after night in a flood of bloodred neon.

Sultry, mysterious and as seductive as her songs, she’s luring Remy deeper into the shadows than he ever imagined. And as their passions swell, his keen instinct for survival will be challenged like never before. By a killer—and by a woman.

Avenging Angel, Cynthia Eden
Avenging Angel (The Fallen, #4)
by Cynthia Eden

Earthly Delights

With a messed up family background and a tendency to grow claws and fangs, Tanner Chance isn't exactly the boy next door. But he's a decent cop, and he keeps himself on the side of the good guys. Convenient, because when he rescues a survivor of a horrific shifter attack he finds himself instantly smitten--with an honest-to-goodness angel, as innocent as she is irresistible.

Marna may be angelic, but she's not stupid or weak. She can take care of herself. Tanner is more temptation than protection anyway. Or so she thinks, until someone wearing her face starts taking out some of New Orleans's more unsavory paranormals. With police and predators both gunning for her blood, Marna has no choice but to trust Tanner. . .even though what's sparking between them is hotter than anything holy.

A Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses

Her supernatural task? To unearth four artifacts hidden by her grandfather before a rival magical family beats her to it.

My recap:

Erion's son, Ladd, is kidnapped by Erion's adoptive father, the evil vampire Cruen. In order to get Ladd back, Erion kidnaps Cruen's bride-to-be as a bargaining chip. But Erion doesn't realize that Hellen is a demon from Hell, and she turns out to be more than he bargained for. She calls to the demon nature he tries to keep hidden and under control, and their attraction to each other is primal and undeniable.

When Hellen's father, the Devil—yes, THE Devil—discovers that she's missing, all Hell breaks loose. Well, The Devil breaks loose. Now Erion has to deal with the Devil. And Erion not only wants his son back, but the devil's daughter in the bargain.

But the devil doesn't drive a fair bargain.

My thoughts:

Hellen is feisty, strong, and kick-ass. Yet she's also sympathetic. She has a tender heart, and constantly worries that she's going to end up like her father. Is she beautiful? That's brought up often throughout the book. You'll have to decide for yourself, but she's beautiful in Erion's eyes.

Erion was short-changed in life, having been rejected by his mother and raised by Cruen. He's considered a "mistake." His son is being raised by his twin brother and his brother's true mate, and Ladd doesn't even realize that Erion is his father. But when Ladd is kidnapped, Erion's fatherly instincts roar to the surface. He feels that he must be the one to bring him home. I won't give you any spoilers, but Erion grows into his true self on his journey.

This book moved along at a fast pace. The suspense, danger, and tension—sexual and otherwise—between Hellen and Erion kept me reading page after page. I was finished before I knew it. And I wanted more!

We visit with favorite characters from past books in Eternal Demon. It was fun to see the irreverent Lucian again. Alexander was his usual commanding self except when it came to his Achilles heel, Sara. Nicholas and Kate face a dark moment in their lives, and it will be interesting to see how they come out on the other side. Synjon Wise has virtually gone mad. Eternal Sin is set up at the end of Eternal Demon. Although I could see the last line of the book coming, it still gave me a thrill.

My recap:

Daniella Delaney is determine to open her cupcake shop in one of Chicago's quieter districts. But Nick St. George, head of the local business association, is just as determined to prevent Daniella from opening her shop in his neighborhood.

Because they don't eat cupcakes in Vamptown.

And Nick needs to keep his clan's secrets … well, secret. Or the lives of his vamps will be at risk.

Usually Nick would simply control Daniella's mind and send her on her way. But he discovers that she is mysteriously immune to mind control. Word about her immunity to vamp compulsion gets out, and she's suddenly a wanted woman. Nick wants her, too, but for a different reason. He must fight his attraction to Daniella.

Or he could be the death of her.

My thoughts:

Daniella is a chatty, fun, funny character with many clever lines. The humor is tongue-in-cheek and subtle, never entering into slapstick or over the top territory. The book is a witty, light read.

Nick plays Daniella's brooding, dark, straight man to Daniella's sunshine. He doesn't think of himself as an honorable hero, but is one just the same.

Between the humor, the development of the relationship between Nick and Daniella, the danger Daniella faces, and the mystery of her immunity to mind control, the book moves along at a good clip. It's a fast read.

This is a very tempting book, in more ways than one. The descriptions of Daniella's various cupcakes will make your mouth water and send you to the kitchen to whip up a batch of blood red velvet cupcakes.

Make mine with cream cheese icing, please.

Enjoy!
