A Stormy Fallen Angel
Meresin is a fallen angel turned demon. During his time in Hell, he was made into a weapon. He has a storm within him, and is able to use lightning to do his bidding. He is also out of control.

Meresin and his brother fallen angels escaped Hell and are living in the underground vampire city, Terra Noctem. Meresin has had trouble adapting. He rages out of control, often attacking citizens of the city.

The One Woman Who Can Soothe Him
Drusilla, "Dru," is a 2,000 year old vampire. Years ago, she kissed Meresin as a distraction. Nothing came of the kiss. But they've both been distracted ever since.

Dru is the one woman who can soothe the raging storm that brews within Meresin.

One Last Chance
Meresin is given one last chance at redemption by the archangel Uriel. He must return to his origins in a quest that he may not return from. But Dru is determined that he won't go alone. And now, because of a fateful incident, her life is tied to his.

A Poignant Love Story
Meresin is solitary, moody, and living in torment from his time in Hell. He's a strong weapon on the outside, but on the inside he's lost and vulnerable. The only bright spot in his life is Dru. Ever since she kissed him, he hasn't been able to get her out of his mind. He fantasizes about her night and day. She's the only one who can reach him when he's unstable.

Dru also can't get their kiss out of her head. She's a strong woman and a fighter. But even after 2,000 years she's still reeling from a relationship gone horribly wrong. She never wants to put herself into that position again, in spite of their kiss.

The Demon's Desire is a poignant love story about two wounded, vulnerable people. Meresin's secret yearning for Dru and his inability to open up is especially heartbreaking. You'll long for him to receive the love and the redemption that he deserves.

There is enough action to keep the book moving along at a good pace. There's humor to light the dark. There is the hope of redemption. But the story you'll take with you, the story you'll hug to your heart, is the heartbreaking, uplifting love story of a tortured fallen angel and the vampire who didn't give up on him.

Enjoy!
Lisa

A spoiler-free summary of the story:

Adrian was murdered by his uncle shortly after his birth. Death is simply a rite of passage for a Hybrid. His soul was released and he was reborn stronger. However, he didn't join either of the soulless factions at war with each other. He became a Rogue. Now, all he wants is to be left alone by his kind. At night, he feeds on diseased souls, ridding the world of the worst of mankind.

And then Angelica Paxton is attacked by the worst of mankind.

Angie, an idealistic volunteer at a halfway house, is confused by Adrian's unnatural abilities. And Adrian is confused when Angie doesn't respond to his mind control.

Until he figures out why she's so special. And why she's in danger from his uncle, who also figures out why she's so special. Adrian has no choice but to stay close to Angie, even though he should fight the attraction he feels for her.

Especially since Angie is keeping a devastating secret from him.

My review:

Anne Hope has written yet another captivating installment in the Dark Souls series. Read on to find out why.

Anne's style is artistic. Her unique, expressive descriptions paint colorful works of art in your mind's eye. Reading her books is a pleasure, and Soul Thief is no exception.

Anne stuffed an amazing amount of character development into this novella. Adrian and Angie are fully fleshed-out people, not just characters.

Angie is a selfless young woman who wants to make a difference in the world. She's a strong, likable person. She not only makes a difference in the world, she makes a difference in Adrian.

I fell in love with the enigmatic Adrian in Soul Deep. He was sympathetic and honorable in that book. In Soul Thief we see that Adrian has always had a noble side to him. But we also see how he became who he is now, and why he works with Hybrids who need help. The reason is both beautiful and heartbreaking.

The plot of Soul Thief involves threats to Angie and intense action scenes. But essentially this is a story of two people who meet, fall in love, and change each other for the better in a race against destiny.

Now that I've read Soul Thief, I can't wait to read Soul Chase! I'm sure you'll feel the same way.

Did you read Soul Deep? Are you looking forward to Adrian's story? Comment below.

I received an advance review copy of Soul Thief in exchange for this honest review.

Soul Thief is billed as Dark Souls #0.5, a prequel. That's because it takes place in the late 1980's, whereas the rest of the books take place in the present day. However, if you're new to the series, I would start with Soul Bound. The complicated world of Dark Souls is fully explained in that book.

I suggest reading the books in the story-order, below.

Book 1
Soul Bound
Book 2
Soul Deep
Novella 0.5
Soul Thief
Book 3
Soul Chase

My recap:

Kane, the keeper of Disaster, has been tortured in Hell for what seems like forever. Josephina Aisling, a half-fae, half-human woman, rescues Kane. Not knowing Josephina's name at first, Kane nicknames her Tinker Bell.

Kane and Tinker Bell end up in the Fae Realm, where the Lords of the Underworld are followed as celebrities. There, Kane learns Tinker Bell's secrets and the reason why she was in Hell in the first place. He is determined to change her circumstances.

But will he be around to see the results? He wants to rid himself of Disaster, and to do so will mean his death.

My thoughts:

Gena Showalter changed Kane from a morose, running joke and a walking disaster—literally—into a sexy, honorable hero. To kill Disaster, he's willing to die. He's emotionally scarred, and yet he has his funny moments. I love the nicknames he comes up with for Josephina. Tinker Bell is just the first one.

Tinker Bell is bright, cheerful, and hilarious. She's a huge fan of the Lords, especially Torin and Paris. Which irks Kane no end. I loved her from the moment I met her. She has a unique ability which gets her both into and out of trouble.

The book is fast-paced, with a couple of storylines running through it that I assume will play out in future Lords of the Underworld and Angels of the Dark books. Yet I didn't feel as if Kane and Tinker Bell's story was short-changed. It was fully developed and satisfying.

Gena has a new-found faith in God, and it shows in her recent books. There is a new morality to them. For instance, there is no pre-marital or pre-commitment sex, and the sex is more veiled than it used to be. Yes, the Lords of the Underworld series has changed. What hasn't changed is that she is still an excellent storyteller.

Enjoy!
