by Larissa Ione

Revenant, Larissa Ione
Rating: 5♥s Outstanding
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: Novel
Audience: Adult
Sensuality: Hot
Release Date: December 16, 2014

An angel raised in hell …
For thousands of years, Revenant believed he was a fallen angel who belonged in Sheoul (hell). Then he found out that he was not only an angel, but he had a brother, Reaver. And, he discovered that he was not just any angel, but a Shadow Angel. One of the most powerful angels in existence.

But because he was tainted with Satan's blood, he was not welcome in Heaven.

A False Angel who isn't what she seems …
Blaspheme, a doctor at Underworld General Hospital (UGH), has been living under the radar. She has been hiding her true nature, but now the magical disguise is wearing off. She's terrified of being found out, as she believes she'll be hunted and killed by angels or fallen angels.

Fallen angels like Revenant.

An attraction that won't be denied …
Revenant desires Blaspheme like he has never desired any other woman before. He believes he just wants sex and will get her out of his system.

Boy, is he wrong. He has no idea what he's gotten himself into.

Blaspheme wants Revenant, but she's terrified that he'll find out what she is.

And in the meantime …
Lucifer is about to be reborn. Blaspheme and Revenant are caught in the middle of the rebirth with few choices. And, oh yeah, Satan wants Revenant to bring him the head of an angel or suffer dire consequences.

Just another day in Sheoul, while the angels conspire against Revenant.

A conflicted hero
Revenant is a cold-blooded killer who wears biker goth. And yet he's heart-breakingly vulnerable. He's angry and hurt. He just wants to be accepted.
'You're a bastard, Revenant, but a beautiful one." Never had anyone given him such a precious compliment, and for a few stuttering heartbeats, he froze, committing [Blaspheme's] words to memory.
How heart-wrenching.

He's lethal. And yet with Blaspheme, he becomes something else. He becomes gentle.

A conflicted love story
Like Revenant, Blaspheme and Revenant's love story is conflicted. Blaspheme's secret threatens the very foundation of their relationship. She can't get close to him. Yet he can't leave her alone.

Secrets come to light, altering the nature of their relationship and the course of their lives.

The love story is tense, humorous, heart-wrenching, and ultimately beautiful.

A fulfilling ending
Remember Satan, Lucifer, and the conspiring angels? Well, let's just say that Revenant fulfills his destiny.

The End?
Is Revenant the end of the Lords of Deliverance/Demonica series? Yes and no. It's the beautiful, satisfying ending of the overall story arc of both series. But it's not the end of the Demonica universe. At the end of the book there's a link to a special epilogue and a peek into the future of Demonica and Lords of Deliverance characters.

The bottom line
Don't miss Revenant. With its vulnerable bad-boy hero, it's one of the best books in the series. You'll fall in love with Revenant, and finish reading with a happy sigh.

Enjoy!

Chained by Night

(Moonbound Clan Vampires, #2)

Larissa Ione

A page-turner. I loved the strong heroine and the sexy alpha hero. There was suspense, betrayal, and truly awful villains. I loved it from the first page to the last.

THE FUTURE OF HIS TRIBE
Leader of the vampire clan MoonBound, Hunter will do what he must to save his people from extinction—or worse, a torturous eternity as vampire slaves and subjects of human experimentation. To keep his enemies at bay, he has agreed to mate a rival clan leader’s daughter in return for peace between the clans and an ally in the looming war with the humans.

THE LOVER OF HIS SOUL

But survival comes at a price. First, Hunter must break an ancient curse by successfully negotiating three deadly tests. Then he must resist the searing passions of the gorgeous vampire warrior he despises but is bound to mate. Will Hunter stay true to his word? Or will he risk everything for the woman he really loves: the vampire seductress’s identical twin sister?

Twisted

(Eternal Guardians, #7)

Elisabeth Naughton

Finally! Nick's story! And what a story it is! It's filled with tension, mystery, jealousy, heartbreak … and love.

NICK – Leader of the half-breeds and the last true hero. He’s spent his life fighting a dark pull toward the gods. A pull he now knows is linked to his father Krónos and the Titan’s plan to escape from the Underworld.

But Nick’s hidden powers are coveted by more than just his father. Imprisoned by Hades, Nick battles every form of torture imaginable as the sadistic god schemes to break him. Only one thing is keeping him sane. One woman who gives him the strength to fight the relentless darkness. She has a dangerous plan of her own, though, and as Nick’s powers grow stronger, even she might not be enough to alter his destiny.

As the fate of the world hangs in the balance, Nick’s allegiances are tested. And no one knows whether he will choose to fight for good or succumb to the sinister lure of evil. Not even him.

Night Unbound

(Immortal Guardians, #5)

Dianne Duvall

There is lots of humor in this book, which is good. Because there's tragedy. But there's also joy and romance. Don't miss it. It's a game-changer for the series.

For centuries, Lisette d'Alençon has been a warrior against the dark. She fights alongside her brothers and comrades. But when the dreams start coming, she can't bear to confess them to the Immortal Guardians' command. Dreams of a dark-haired man with soft eyes and brutal wounds, a man her heart aches for--and a man she knows has been declared a traitor.

Zach is an exile, a loner. He won't defend himself against false accusations or grovel to those who should have faith in him. But he'll damn sure defend the woman who kept him sane against a plague of super-vamps that seems to have appeared from nowhere. The Guardians will blame him, and that will make Lisette suspect, too. With life, death and eternity on the line, who can they really trust?

Joy, Tragedy & Love: NIGHT UNBOUND by Dianne Duvall

NIGHT UNBOUND

(Immortal Guardians, #5)

by Dianne Duvall

Night Unbound by Dianne Duvall
 Rating: 4.5♥s Excellent
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: Novel
Audience: Adult
Sensuality: Hot
Release Date: September 2, 2014

An Immortal Guardian…

Lisette is one of the few female Immortal Guardians. Her special gift is that she's a telepath. She has been drawn to Zach ever since she met him. Even when, previously, she was part of a group that captured and interrogated him.

And a mysterious, powerful being

Zach is...well, we don't know what Zach is. He's big, he's very powerful, he's ancient, and he has wings. He's an Other, but what's an Other? Seth, leader of the Immortal Guardians, used to be an Other but chose a different path and came to live among humans. Zach helped Seth in a previous book, and put himself in the cross hairs of the Others.

A deadly vampire army

Another vampire army has arisen, intent on taking down the Immortal Guardians. This new army is eerily similar to the one they wiped out before, which shouldn't be possible.  Seth believes Zach betrayed the Immortal Guardians, and Zach suffers the consequences. Lisette is warned to stay away from Zach.

When Zach returns—gravely injured—months later, Lisette can't stand by. She disobeys Seth and helps Zach. She believes in Zach, and believes they are meant to be together.

Humor, Joy, Tragedy, and Love

Throughout the book, Duvall weaves clever, fun humor. We need it, because the war continues and the stakes are raised.  The Immortal Guardians are in mortal danger. Mystery surrounds those behind the new vampire army.  Zach has a change of status, which takes the series in a new direction.  We learn some of Seth's background and see some things about him we've never seen before. There is joy. There is terrible tragedy. And there is great love.

We get an intriguing teaser as to what the Others might be, but is it a red herring? We can only wait and see!

If you haven't read this series, don't miss it! Start with Darkness Dawns. If you're already a fan, don't miss this game-changing book.

Enjoy!

CRAVE THE NIGHT Earns 4.5♥s!

CRAVE THE NIGHT

(Midnight Breed, #12)

by Lara Adrian

Crave the Night cover, by Lara Adrian
 Rating: 4.5♥s Excellent
Genre: Paranormal Romance/Vampire
Length: Novel
Audience: Adult
Sensuality: Scorcher
Release Date: August 15, 2014

This review assumes some familiarity with the Midnight Breed series. If you haven't read the series, read it now!

 A forbidden love …

Nathan is a Gen One Hunter, a Breed bred and trained to be an emotionless killer. Twenty years ago he was rescued by Hunter and Corinne. Now he's captain of his own squad for The Order under Sterling Chase in Boston.

Jordana Gates is a Breedmate and a darling of Boston high society. Jordana's adoptive father is adamant that she be blood-bonded to a suitable Breed male by the time she's 25—just a few weeks away. But her father's choice of a mate doesn't make her blood run hot like the controlled Nathan does.

And Jordana makes Nathan lose control.

The love story between Nathan and Jordana is scorching, and gut-wrenching. Did I mention scorching? It bears repeating. You'll fall in love with Nathan right beside Jordana. The resolution of Nathan and Jordana's love story is both fun and satisfying.

The plot is full of mystery, murder, lethal danger, dangerous secrets, and secret identities. Once it grabs you, it doesn't let you go.

My guess is that the events in CRAVE THE NIGHT will ultimately be crucial to the overall story arc of the series. It's going to be an interesting adventure. Don't miss the book or the series!

Review:

BURNING DAWN by Gena Showalter Earn 4.5♥s

Burning Dawn

(Angels of the Dark, #3)

by Gena Showalter

Burning Dawn, Gena Showalter
Rating: 4.5♥s Excellent / Highly Recommended
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Length: Novel
Audience: Adult
Sensuality: Hot
Release Date: May 2, 2014

Gena Showalter's World of Angels of the Dark:
The Angels of the Dark series is a spin-off of the immensely popular and highly-recommended series, Lords of the Underworld. Angels of the Dark can be read as a standalone series, but you'll have more fun with it if you are familiar with LOTU.

Thane, the hero of Burning Dawn, is a Sent One. Sent Ones are adopted sons of the Most High. They hunt and kill demons. Thane is a member of one of the Most High's heavenly defensive forces. Unfortunately, he's a member of the Army of Disgrace. The AoD is a group of Sent Ones who have trouble following orders, and who are on probation for a year. They are in danger of losing their wings and immortality.

They are the Angels of the Dark.

A Tortured Hero
Thane's "disgraceful" behavior has its origin in a past of an unusual kind of torture. As a result, he derives pleasure from pain, including violence, killing, and BDSM.

One of his biggest fears is being at someone's mercy again. As the story opens, he is the drugged sex slave of a sadistic Phoenix.

A Shattered Heroine
Elin Vale is also a prisoner in the Phoenix camp. Her life was shattered when the Phoenix captured her Phoenix mother, and killed her human father and husband in front of her. He has been despised, derided, and tortured by the Phoenix ever since.

Out of the frying pan …
A timid and fearful Elin decides freeing Thane from the Phoenix's poison is his ticket to freedom—and hers. She stages a rescue. And the first time Thane comes to his senses and pulls out his sword of fire, you fall in love with him.

Well, except for all the limbs and heads that go flying.

Elin is now under Thane's protection, and he takes her to his club in the lowest level of the skies. There, he's brutal to what's left of the Phoenix. He doesn't know that Elin is half Phoenix.

She has to keep it that way, or she might end up like the Phoenix from the camp.

Thane is drawn to Elin. He's protective of her and considers her to be his. But he can't get involved with her because she's a fragile human. Or so he thinks.

And into the fire.
Elin is drawn to the dark and dangerous Thane. But she must keep her husband's memory alive. She'll never take another lover.

And Thane will kill her if he finds out she's half Phoenix.

A tragic, romantic tale
Thane is both hard and soft. He can be brutal, even to Elin. Keep the tissues handy. And yet he's also poetic, romantic, and protective. He's big, tall, has crystalline blue eyes, pearl and gold wings, and … well, you find out what else. (Snicker) He's a hero you can love.

Elin is strong, kind, and funny. She has some great lines that will have you smiling, if not laughing. Although she thinks she's timid, she's brave enough to rescue a Sent One and then face him down. She's a heroine to cheer for.

The story is tense and fast-paced, and kept me reading late into the night. Unlike the first two Angels of the Dark books, it was also very hot. A commitment was not required before they consummated their relationship.

I liked the way various story lines came together for the HEA. The end was very satisfying.

As of this writing, Gena Showalter hasn't announced any more books in this series. But The Darkest Touch, Lords of the Underworld #11, is coming out in November 2014. And Lords of the Underworld #12 was hinted at in Burning Dawn.

Enjoy both series!

Wild Wolf Rates 4.5♥s

Wild Wolf

(Shifters Unbound, #6)

by Jennifer Ashley

Wild Wolf by Jennifer Ashley
Rating: 4.5♥ Excellent / Highly Recommended
Genre: Paranormal Romance / Shifter
Length: Novel
Audience: Adult
Sensuality: Hot
Release Date: April 1, 2014

Jennifer Ashley's world of Shifters Unbound

In the Shifters Unbound series, Shifters have been "out" for twenty years. Humans have subjugated them and put them in Shiftertowns where they have few rights. They must wear collars that cause pain if they become violent. They are not allowed amenities—smartphones and cable TV—that humans take for granted. Their travel is restricted. Humans associating with shifters are not trusted. By either group.

A wild wolf

Graham McNeil is a wild wolf. He's loud, scarred, brash, and violent. He's also the alpha of his pack and co-leader of the Las Vegas Shiftertown. The only person who calms him and makes him feel alive is his sort-of girlfriend, Misty Granger.

A human.

That's a problem, because Graham needs to mate with a shifter for the good of his pack. He needs to have strong shifter cubs to continue the line. His pack insists on it.

A kidnapping

When Misty is kidnapped, there's more to it than there seems. Graham becomes ensnared by a powerful enemy. It's the beginning of a plan that would result in disaster for shifters and humans alike. Graham and Misty must not only save themselves, but—literally—the world.

Engaging characters

Graham bellows and stomps and fights, and we love him for it. And so does Misty. No, she's not a Masochist. She sees below the surface to the shifter with a painful past, the alpha who cares for his pack, and the protective boyfriend. She sees the infrequent smiles and sense of humor.

Misty is a strong heroine with a mind of her own. She's the only one who can stand up to Graham and get away with it.

Two characters who almost steal the show are Matt and Kyle, young cubs who are thrust upon Graham. They spend a lot of time in their energetic wolf forms. As humans, they eat a lot of pizza and ice cream. Although Graham adopts them, they adopt Misty. They provide a lot of comic relief, but they are much more than they seem.

A new, mysterious character, Ben, is introduced. It will be interesting to see how often we see him in future books. Familiar character Reid plays a large role.

Suspense

Suspense keeps the book moving along. There are plenty of nasty surprises and mortal danger to go around.

Satisfaction

The ending is fun and gratifying. The book's only problem is it leaves you wishing for more.

Enjoy Wild Wolf!
