The Immortalis Series by Angela McCallister

The Immortalis Series

by Angela McCallister

Angela McCallister created a unique vampire world in her Immortalis series. In the world of the Immortalis (vampires), there are two castes. They are the Dominorum ( the ruling class) and the Legion (the lower class).

The Immortalis live openly among humans. In order to maintain the peace, there is a Vampire Liaison Office.

There are adjuvants, subjugates, Enforcers, Trackers, a Rex, Ancients—and more—which add to the richness and depth of the world of the Immortalis. So far, McCallister has written two books in the series.

My recap:
Someone has set a rogue vampire on Seattle in an effort to create a vampire-human war. Valerie Craig, Vice Director of the Vampire Liaison Office, must work with the Immortalis to find out who is behind the murderous rampage, and put a stop to it. But Val is, ironically, prejudiced against vampires.

Val is forced to work with Kade Rollins, a rude, violent Immortalis who embodies her worst prejudices. And yet she is drawn to him.

Even though it looks like he may be behind the effort to start the war.

My thoughts:
Kade, the potty mouth of the title, is a crude, abrasive, violent character. And I loved him. He's also noble, protective, and gentle toward Val. He motivations for being as violent as he is. Being a potty mouth is just a bonus for readers.

Kade is prejudiced against humans, and Val is prejudiced against vampires. In spite of that, they are undeniably attracted to each other. They can't fight it. As they gradually see each other in a different light, they also begin to learn about each other's races. Love grows with understanding.

The plot is well constructed, with a number of twists and turns. Kade is supposed to be helping Val with an investigation, but is he hindering it? Is he, in fact, the enemy? The deeper they get involved in the investigation, the more dangerous it becomes. Bad Mouth is a real page-turner.

It seems like a contradiction, but this novel about a violent vampire who needs his mouth washed out with Ivory is actually emotionally satisfying. There's a nice balance between the crude and violent and the warm and fuzzy. You'll feel good when you finish the book.

Bad Mouth is a brilliant debut novel that I highly recommend.

Bad Cop

(The Immortalis, #2)

Bad Cop by Angela McCallister
Rating: 4.0♥s Very Good / Recommended
Genre: Paranormal Romance / Vampire
Audience: Adult
Sensuality: Hot
Length: Novel
Release Date: October 28, 2013

My recap:
Alice is suddenly appointed Vice Director of the Vampire Liaison Office when Val (Bad Mouth) takes a leave of absence. For personal reasons, Alice is biased against cops. They're all dirty, aren't they? But in her new position she must work directly with Killian (Ian), a Legion Tracker. Essentially a cop. And yet Alice was attracted to him from the moment she met him in Bad Mouth.

Ian starts right off working down and dirty. Alice fights Ian and fights her attraction to him. Ian is patient with her. But the case they're working on turns out to be more deadly to them than either expected.

My thoughts:
I liked Alice. She thought she had a good reason for being prejudiced against cops. It's her one fault. Otherwise she is a strong, sympathetic character.

I loved Ian. He knows he wants Alice, and he is determined to win her. He does what he needs to do as far as being a cop, but he is also protective and kind and even funny around Alice.

Angela McCallister has a way of surprising me with her plots. She doesn't pull any punches with Alice and Ian. (You'll just have to read the book to find out what happens!) With the way things turn out, I think we'll be seeing more of Alice in future books.

Bottom line? Angela McCallister is a talented author who hit the ground running with her Immortalis series. You don't want to miss it!
